Emerging from the Heartland of America, a young alternative rock band, “Fifth Amendment” is generating excitement beyond their rural hometown in Northeast Iowa. Christian Timmerman, bass guitar; Jason R. Brink, (J.R.) guitar, lead singer and song writer;  J. R.’s brother, Jordan Brink, drums and Ben Weiss, lead guitar started playing together for fun in the summer of 2007, unaware at the time that their unique style would lead to such a fan base they have today. “We never really had the intentions to get to where we are today, J. R. says, but things just kept happening and we gradually got bigger and bigger.”

While touring in the Midwest, Fifth Amendment has made guest appearances on local radio stations as well as opening for various recording artists. The band points with pride to the fact they took the Northeast Iowa Battle of Bands in 2008.  But even as their success grows, band members know the fans are the ones that create the excitement and energy they connect with during live performances.

Whether on stage or in the studio, Fifth Amendment brings passion and commitment to their music, offering their own style and sound, capturing the emotions of their fans.  “What sets us apart from other musicians,” J. R. says, “is our sound.  I can never find other bands that have our sound. Whenever someone ask me who we sound like I can never think of a good answer, because I don't think we sound like any other groups.”

Influenced by bands like Finch, Bush, Three Doors Down and Stain’d, Fifth Amendment provides their own interpretation to all the music they play, forging an identity that has led to a devoted following.  J. R. says the group is gaining success and recognition for its original music. “A lot of the inspiration for the music we write comes from life experiences, relationships (ups and downs), and things I see other people in my life go through.”

That inspiration is reflected on their first recently recorded Demo.  “The End of Me” is written from one of J. R.’s life experiences, touching the changes in his life, on his way to a new start.  “Find Yourself” is about watching people facing today’s rough times.  The song reminds people to appreciate and enjoy the good times.  Other new originals include, “Breaking Away” a song about ending a relationship, only to realize later the meaning of the loss. “Lesson Learned” portrays how people are often different than they seem. And seeing a friend’s hardship of a lost love inspired “Never Dies.”  J. R.’s piano solo with “Days Go By” the listener identifies with the song because it conveys a shared experience.

Whether on stage or in the studio, J. R. says Fifth Amendment’s goal is to reach and connect with fans.  “I want to write and play music, because it is the one thing in my life that I can't go without and when people hear my music and like it, it is the most satisfying feeling I've ever felt.”

J. R., Christian, Ben and Jordan say they can’t believe how far they have come in just two years.  But the focus now is on the future, creating and recording new music, touring and welcoming every new opportunity.
